Robin Uthappa extends support to Virat Kohli amidst poor form

Indian batter Robin Uthappa came out in support of under-fire batting superstar Virat Kohli on Wednesday, saying that the seasoned campaigner knows exactly what is best for him.

Kohli has been on the firing line due to his recent slump in form. His last appearance for India came in the England tour. Kohli, though, had a horrific England tour – where he didn’t manage a single score of more than 20 in 6 innings in England across the three formats.

The 33-year-old was rested for the West Indies tour. After which he opted to rest for the Zimbabwe series. And now, he will, after a month’s break again, straightaway return to the Asia Cup – with lack of form, no match practice as there are no domestic matches going on.

Many cricket pundits have criticised Virat's decision to rest for the Zimbabwe series. However, Uthappa came in Kohli's support and said the decision to take a break will help the Indian stalwart to rediscover his form.

Break will reset Virat: Uthappa

Robbie spoke on Kohli's lack of form. However, he believes that the player should have constant game time as a break from the game could have negatives effects on his existing form.

“There are only two choices – you either take a break or you dive deeper into it. And over the last couple of years, he’s tried both avenues. It’s his call and he perhaps believes, given the situation we are at right now, that taking a break right now would be better for him. And sometimes, taking a break can unclutter your mind and help you just reset, or gives you time to actually think deeply what’s going wrong and how you want to address it,"

"I feel Virat (Kohli) being Virat, him serving the country as he has and giving us the pleasure of his performances over the years, I think we should trust his call and allow him to figure out his own batting. Because, when he performed the way he performed, I think he found a way to figure out how to perform at that level and at that intensity."

A lot of experts and former players have already spoken on the matter either in support of the Indian superstar or lambasting him for his poor outings. However, one thing is for sure, the king is bound to bounce back from his lean patch sooner than later.
