Former Indian cricketer & legend Anil Kumble has entered the discussion surrounding the dilemma of Rishabh Pant versus Dhruv Jurel in the Indian Test cricket team.

With Jurel's stellar performance in his maiden Test match, drawing comparisons to the legendary MS Dhoni, Kumble highlighted the young player's potential. He stated,

 "He certainly has all the credentials to get to where MS (Dhoni) reached in his career." This is only his second Test and I'm sure as he starts playing more and more he'll only get better."


Jurel's recent form has indeed shaken up the selection order, raising questions about his future in the Indian Test team. His impressive batting and competent wicket-keeping skills have sparked discussions on whether he could retain his place alongside Pant or carve his path as a specialist batter. Sunil Gavaskar also compared Jurel to MS Dhoni, further highlighting the youngster's potential.

The selection dilemma arises as Rishabh Pant, the established wicketkeeper-batsman, is expected to return for the upcoming Bangladesh series after recovering from injury. However, Jurel's compelling performance has left the team management facing a difficult decision.

With Pant's absence due to a tragic car accident in December 2022, India experimented with several wicketkeeping options before turning to Jurel in the ongoing series against England. Despite KS Bharat's poor run of form with the bat, Jurel's standout performances have put him in contention for a regular spot in the team.

As India prepares for the fifth Test in Dharamsala on 4th March, Jurel will have another opportunity to showcase his talent. However, the real test awaits during the Bangladesh series in September, where both Pant and Jurel will vie for the wicketkeeper's role.
