Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is working towards making a comeback after suffering a foot fracture during the recent Test series in England. He is set to begin his rehab at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence under the supervision of the medical staff.

Pant got injured in the fourth Test at Old Trafford, when a delivery from Chris Woakes struck his foot. Despite the pain, he came back to bat and scored a brave half-century.

However, the injury forced him to miss the fifth Test at The Oval and ruled him out of the Asia Cup 2025. In his absence, Sanju Samson and Jitesh Sharma were picked in India’s 15-member squad for the tournament starting September 9 in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Rishabh Pant Likely To Return Against West Indies

After staying in England for a short recovery, Pant has now returned to India. Reports suggest he is eyeing a return during India’s two-Test home series against the West Indies in October. If not, he could still feature in the white-ball series against Australia later in October-November.

According to a report in Cricbuzz

“Pant is targeting India’s next home series against the West Indies in October for his comeback, and if that does not happen, the white-ball series against Australia in October-November seems a realistic possibility."

It is worth noting that while Pant is India’s first-choice keeper in Tests, he isn’t the top option in ODIs and T20Is. However, he was part of the squads earlier this year but didn’t get game time.

Meanwhile, Pant’s return would be a big boost for India, especially after their disappointing home series loss to New Zealand. His recent form in England was outstanding, 479 runs in 7 innings with 3 centuries, averaging 68.43, making him one of India’s most important players heading into the next home season.
