India and Australia are gearing up for an exciting white-ball series in October, featuring three ODIs and five T20Is. This contest is highly anticipated as it will be the first ODI meeting between the two sides since the Champions Trophy earlier this year.

Notably, fans will get to watch some of the biggest stars of the game, with India boasting Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, while Australia will rely on the likes of Mitchell Marsh and Mitchell Starc. However, Australia will be missing a few key players, as injuries have disrupted their preparations.

Pat Cummins

Australia ODI and Test captain Pat Cummins is among the biggest names ruled out. A scan revealed a stress injury in his lower back, forcing him to sit out the entire white-ball series against both New Zealand and India

Cummins has not played since the Test series in the Caribbean and has already been rested during recent matches against West Indies and South Africa. The management had planned for him to build up his fitness ahead of the home Test season, but this injury setback means he will now shift his focus toward being fully fit for the Ashes opener against England on November 21 in Perth.

Lance Morris

Another blow for Australia is fast bowler Lance Morris. The 27-year-old has been battling recurring back problems and has now opted for surgery to repair a stress fracture. This is the same procedure Cameron Green underwent last year, and recovery will take up to 12 months.

As a result, Morris will miss the entire 2025–26 season. While this rules him out of India series and several other tours, Australia hope to have him back and firing in time for the heavy international schedule set for late 2026 and 2027.

Matthew Short

Matthew Short adds to Australia’s injury woes. He is still recovering from a side strain picked up during the West Indies series and was recently ruled out of the T20Is against South Africa.

It is important to mention that Short has been unlucky with injuries in recent months, having also missed the Champions Trophy earlier this year after injuring his calf against Afghanistan. Therefore, the opener is expected to be sidelined.
