Reports: PCB offers Rs 1 Crore to mentors of Pakistan Junior League

In the latest development, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has offered PKR 1 Crore ($50,000) to the mentors of the inaugural Pakistan Junior League (PJL).

The tournament's inaugural edition will take place between October 1-15 later this year and will feature the likes of Javed Miandad, Shahid Afridi, Darren Sammy, and Shoaib Malik.

The Pakistan Cricket Board unveiled the same in a press release this week. While Miandad will oversee all six sides' mentors, the likes of Afridi, Sammy, and Malik will be a part of the dug-outs in the lead-up and during the tournament.

Following the unveiling of the names, Ramiz Raja said in an official statement-

"I am delighted that we have been able to attract Javed Miandad, Daren Sammy, Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Malik as mentors for the Pakistan Junior League. Their involvement in the Pakistan Junior League will help us achieve one of our event objectives that revolves around helping future generations of cricketers to achieve the champions and match-winning approach and mindset," said Raja.

According to the latest report published in Cricket Pakistan, all the mentors will take home the same amount of money for two weeks' work.

That said, the PCB is struggling to rope in foreign mentors as the tournament falls in the same window as the T20 World Cup, which is set to take place in October and November in Australia.

The tournament is the brainchild of PCB chairman Ramiz Raja and the idea behind roping in famous former cricketers in the role of a mentor is to use them as the selling point.

Afridi, Sammy, and Malik will not only be mentoring their respective sides but also serve as the tournament's ambassadors.
