He was fantastic. He was the difference: Cummins

Australia's Test captain Pat Cummins believes that Cameron Green was the difference-maker in Australia's win over Sri Lanka in the first Test at Galle.

Australia registered a crushing win over Sri Lanka by ten wickets on day 3 of the first Test. The visitors couldn't add much to their overnight score as Asitha Fernando wrapped up the tail quickly in the first session. The hosts were trailing by 109 runs and could only manage to set a target of 5 runs for the Aussies to chase in the fourth innings.

Opener David Warner ensured the match ended quickly, taking just four balls to hit two boundaries to end the game and claim their first Test win in Galle in 11 years. Spinner Nathan Lyon starred with a match haul of nine wickets, but the man of the match award was given to all-rounder Cameron Green who top-scored for his side in the match with 77 off 109 balls in the first innings.

Cummins was delighted with his team's performance in tough alien conditions. He said that the batters were brave in their approach in the match.

"Turned out this morning, didn't think it was going to happen that fast. We were really clear in our planning. Bravery and proactiveness shown, especially by our batters," Pat Cummins said in the post-match presentation.

Cummins pointed out that Green hails from Western Australia, where the wickets are bouncy and fast, and in Sri Lanka, the conditions are completely different still, he played brilliantly and made the difference at the end.

"Someone like (Cameron) Green has grown up at the WACA; it's so different. Really happy for him. He was fantastic. He was the difference," added Cummins.

Playing his first-ever Test series in Sri Lanka, Green struck a masterly 77 on a tough batting wicket. He also forged half-century partnerships with Alex Carey and Usman Khawaja to put the visitors in charge of the opening Test. The tall right-handed batter added 84 runs with Alex Carey and 57 runs with Usman Khawaja to help Australia eclipse Sri Lanka's below-par total of 212 and reach 321 in their first innings.
