It is the end of road for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025 as the Shubman Gill-led side have crashed out of the tournament following a 20-runs defeat against Mumbai Indians in the eliminator at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Talking about the match, Mumbai Indians, batting first, put 228 runs on the board, courtesy of Rohit Sharma's 81-run knock. Gujarat Titans were handed with a tough task to chase down the highest total in their history. In reply, the Shubman Gill-led side lost their captain early on, but Sai Sudharsan played another valuable knock and made the impossible look possible, but couldn't seal the win for his side.
MI Set-Up Clash With Punjab Kings
Eventually, the Titans fell short of 20 runs. In the last over of the match, GT required 24 to win and Richard Gleeson was brought into the attack. The 37-year-old shone for his side and gave away just 3 runs. For MI, Trent Boult picked up couple of scalps, while Jasprit Bumrah picked up the crucial wicket of Washington Sundar to bring MI back into the hunt.
Meanwhile, the five-time winners now move ahead to qualifier 2 and the Indians will now lock horns against Punjab Kings on Sunday, June 1 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. It was tough luck for Gujarat Titans as the Shubman Gill-led were on top of the table for majority of the season and MI registered their first win of the season against a top three placed team.
