Former India and Royal Challengers Bengaluru player Dinesh Karthik has been appointed as the Indian captain for the upcoming Hong Kong Sixes tournament. The development was confirmed by Hong Kong's official handle on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) through a formal announcement. 

Dinesh Karthik to lead Indian contingent in Hong Kong Sixes

Hailed for his sharp cricketing acumen and 360-degree stroke play, Dinesh Karthik has a plethora of experience in the shortest format. Besides representing RCB at the fag end of his IPL career, Karthik has also led Kolkata Knight Riders in the lucrative T20 league. 

After retiring from international cricket and the IPL, Karthik has been active as a freelancer across global T20 leagues. He made his inaugural appearance in an overseas league when he joined Paarl Royals for the most recent SA20 season.

Dinesh Karthik's T20 career at a glance

In a career spanning almost two decades, Dinesh Karthik has played 412 T20 matches, amassing 7537 runs at an average of 27.01 and a strike rate of 136.66. He played for six different teams- MI, RCB, KKR, Gujarat Lions, DC and PBKs- scoring 4842 runs in 234 innings between 2008 and 2024. Talking about his SA20 career, Karthik represented Paarl Royals with modest success, scoring 130 runs, including a fifty, in eight innings.
