In a setback for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) ahead of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024, star all-rounder Kanika Ahuja has been ruled out due to injury. Ahuja's absence leaves a void in the team's lineup, presenting a challenge for captain Smriti Mandhana and the RCB management.

However, RCB has swiftly moved to address this setback by announcing Shradda Pokharkar as Ahuja's replacement. Hailing from Maharashtra, Pokharkar brings her left-arm fast bowling prowess to the team. The decision to sign her at a reserve price of INR 10 lakhs reflects the team's confidence in her abilities to contribute positively to RCB's campaign.

RCB is eager to redeem themselves in the WPL 2024 after a disappointing outing in the previous season. With a shaky start and inconsistent performances, RCB failed to make it to the playoffs in 2023. Mandhana and her team are determined to turn their fortunes around, starting with their opening match against UP Warriorz Women on February 24 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.

Reflecting on RCB-W's performance last season, the team finished fourth in the standings with just four points from eight games, winning only two matches. The team's inconsistency was a major factor in their underwhelming campaign.
