In the early hours of Tuesday, the internet was filled with reports that the RCB owners are looking to sell the club for around $2 billion dollars. Notably, the development comes days after the Rajat Patidar-led side won their first-ever IPL trophy.

RCB is owned by United Spirits- the second-largest spirits-making brand in the world by volume. They have been at the helm of ownership since Vijay Mallya sold off his spirits business.

RCB Not For Sale

The reports spread like fire on the internet, and a section also linked the possible move with the recent tragedy in Bengaluru that left 11 dead.

However, in the latest events, the Economic Times reported that RCB fans are provided with a breath of relief as United Spirits have dismissed the rumours and remarked that there are no discussions taking place within the company in regards to the sale of RCB.

Storyboard 18, in a report, quoted a letter from Mital Sanghvi, Company Secretary at USL, as qupted by Cricket times,  said that the rumours are nothing but speculation.

“This has reference to your email seeking clarification from the Company on media reports about the potential stake sale of RCB. The Company would like to clarify that the aforesaid media reports are speculative in nature, and it is not pursuing any such discussions,” as quoted by Cricket Times.

BCCI's New Norm Possible Reason Behind Sale Discussions

These discussions were said to be a result of the new norms issued by Indian health ministry to the BCCI to prohibit the promotion of tobacco and alcohol brands in the Indian Premier League, along with curbing the indirect promotion of other unhealthy products by sports personalities.

Thus, United Spirits were facing issues to market their product and are finding it difficult with each day to grow their product in India through the IPL.
