Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has kicked off its pre-tournament camp without its top player, Virat Kohli, who is expected to join in a few more days, just before the team's IPL 2024 campaign opener against reigning champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on March 22 in Chennai.

The latest update confirms that Kohli will need a bit more time before he can join the team camp.

Meanwhile, other players such as skipper Faf du Plessis, Alzarri Joseph, Dinesh Karthik, Anuj Rawat, and Glenn Maxwell have already assembled at the camp under the guidance of new head coach Andy Flower and Director of Cricket Mo Bobat.

They began their training on the opening day of the camp on Wednesday.

Kohli is scheduled to join the RCB camp just before the team's annual ‘Unbox’ promotional event on March 19 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. He will link up with the squad before they depart for Chennai for the opening game against CSK on March 22.

According to a BCCI source closely following developments within IPL teams, Kohli is expected to arrive in Bengaluru in the next few days.

"Kohli is expected to join in the next few days,” a BCCI source, who is tracking developments within IPL teams, told PTI.

The upcoming IPL 2024 holds significance as it marks Kohli's return to competitive cricket after a hiatus of two and a half months. His last appearance was during the T20I series against Afghanistan.

This year’s IPL will be crucial for the stalwart batter amid speculation about his future in T20Is, with reports suggesting that he might not be selected for the T20 World Cup 2024 to make way for younger players.

Kohli will be keen to make a big impact with the bat in the ten-team tournament. As the leading run-scorer in IPL history, he has been a key figure for the Bangalore-based franchise and will aim to lead his team to their maiden IPL title.
