In a shocking turn of events, England bowling all-rounder Tom Curran faced sanctions from the Big Bash League over a breach in Cricket Australia's Player Code of Conduct.

Tom Curran, playing for Sydney Sixers, apparently had an ugly encounter with umpires, which led to extreme repercussions.

As per the statement released by Big Bash League, umpires issued an official warning to Curran after he ran over the pitch during a practice run-up. While Tom adhered to it, he went on to the opposite end and repeated the same offence again, after which the umpire in question stood over the wickets, thus disallowing the Englishmen to bowl any further.

However, Tom Curran allegedly turned a deaf ear and tried to run over the umpire, as the statement from BBL says. The match official moved to his right in time to avoid a collision.

Tom Curran Banned For Four BBL Games

But the umpire formally complained against the bowler, who initially rejected the charges to claim innocence. However, the investigating committee pronounced him guilty and handed over a four-match ban as a punishment.

The suspension was levelled in accordance with a breach of Cricket Australia's player code of conduct, and the statement specifically mentioned that Curran tried to intimidate the umpires.

Having said that, Tom Curran is in no mood to stand down and has garnered the backing of Sydney Sixers.

Following the suspension announcement, the Sixers put up a counter statement to reject charges leveled by BBL. The team says they believe Curran's version of the story and would definitely appeal against the sanctions imposed.

Interestingly, RCB picked up Tom Curran during the recently concluded IPL 2024 auctions. However, the ban is unlikely to affect his IPL participation as the suspension stays limited to Big Bash League only.

That being said, the unfortunate incident is not a good sign for the league or the player in question. It reflects negatively on the player's overall image.

Sadly, the matter is unlikely to end anytime soon as Curran and Sixers mull a retaliation.
