India’s ace off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is eyeing a new landmark in the upcoming third Test match of England’s tour of India in Rajkot.

Ashwin currently stands one wicket away from hitting the milestone of 500 wickets in Test cricket for India.

Previously, only Anil Kumble had achieved this golden milestone, taking 619 wickets for India in Test cricket. The only player who ever came close to the record of Kumble was Harbhajan Singh (419 wickets), who was overthrown by Ashwin long ago.

Overall, Ravichandran Ashwin is set to become only the ninth bowler in the history of cricket to register 500 wickets in red-ball cricket. Ashwin is regarded as one of India's most experienced and clever bowlers, as he has time and again trapped the batsmen into his strategies to send them back to the dugout.

Ravichandran Ashwin has given some phenomenal performances for India in the Test series of England’s tour of India. With both the bat and the ball, Ashwin has made significant impacts throughout the game, giving the team a dominant position.

The 39-year-old off-spinner gave India a huge boost, as he has taken nine wickets till now in both Tests. It will be interesting to watch how Ravichandran Ashwin will manage to take his 10th wicket of the series to make it to 500 Test wickets.

Previously, he, along with Ravindra Jadeja, became the most successful spin duo for India in Tests after passing the previous record holders Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh.

India and England will lock horns for the 3rd Test match of England’s tour of India from February 15–19 at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot.
