India’s attacking wicket-keeper batter Sanju Samson has recently picked up a new role of a bowler as he gives up his gloves. Samson - who is currently leading Kerala in the Ranji trophy 2024 series - recently began working on bowling while stepping away from keeping the wickets.

Samson's recent bowling spell gained wide attention from the cricket fraternity as the keeper’s selection in the national team has been a huge question over the years. In the recent Ranji Trophy 2024 match against Bengal, Sanju took this massive decision as the skipper ran out of bowling options.

Sanju Samson bowled one over against Bengal and ended up conceding 11 runs in the 2nd innings of the game as his plays backfired. Kerala ended up winning the game by 109 runs, however, Samson’s recent decision attracted a lot of eyes.

Will Samson’s recent stint get him a spot in T20 World Cup 2024?

Interestingly, Sanju Samson has never bowled a delivery and has stuck to keeping the wicket since the past 13 years of his domestic career. However, the BCCI’s new strategy to pick as many all-rounders as possible in the squad, might have given the batter a reason to try bowling.

Sanju Samson will next be seen representing Rajasthan Royals in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. Samson has had a good career as a captain for Rajasthan, after the team’s recent performances in the qualifiers of IPL 2022 and league stage of IPL 2023.
