One of Bangladesh's rising stars, Najmul Hossain Shanto, has been announced as the skipper of all three formats by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). His tenure is set to be a one-year trial, after which the board will review his performance.

This comes after Shanto led impressively against New Zealand in all three formats and earned plaudits from the board members, who are now looking at him as the leader of the side. His upcoming task will be the all-format series against Sri Lanka beginning on 4th of March.

Further, Shakib Al Hasan has been relieved from captaincy duties for the T20I format as he expressed his difficulty with the eye condition, hampering his ability to perform on the field. Although Shakib wanted to continue as the T20 skipper, he was unsure of his ODI captaincy, which prompted BCB to look at Shanto with the future in mind.

Shanto's big assignment for this year will be the T20 World Cup 2024, to be held in June in the Caribbean and the United States. Given that Shakib built an impressive T20I side, the new captain's job will be to get the best of his players.

To the unversed, the Bangla Tigers had an impressive run against the BlackCaps as they drew the Test and T20 series 1-1 while losing the ODI series 2-1, which was also their first-ever win in the 50-over format.

Shanto, with the bat, was exceptional both in the Asia Cup and World Cup for his side last year and will hope to continue that form in the upcoming season.
