India's most successful bowling pair of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja conceded 413 runs in the first Test, marking the second-highest among the 50 Tests they have played together.

The first instance of them conceding over 400 runs in a Test match occurred in 2017 during the second Test of India’s tour of Sri Lanka in Colombo, where they collectively gave away 437 runs. In that match, they were taken down by Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis.

In the recent Hyderabad Test against England, the English batters employed an effective strategy against the Indian spin trio of Ashwin, Jadeja, and Axar Patel. They used sweeps, reverse sweeps, and paddle shots to neutralize the spin threat. Specifically, during England's second innings, the batters, led by Ollie Pope, whose knock of 196 runs scripted history at Hyderabad.

In the same match, Ashwin and Jadeja achieved a significant milestone by completing 500 wickets together in Test cricket, highlighting their long standing partnership on the field with the ball. Despite the challenging they faced in the first Test against England at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, their overall record remains impressive.

In the 49 Tests played together before this series, India lost just four games, winning 35, losing four, and drawing 10 matches. Given their experience of the India conditions, the spin duo is expected to bounce back in the series.

England secured a victory in the first Test of the five-match series against India in Hyderabad. The visitors successfully defended a target of 230, bowling India out for 202 on Day 4.

Debutant Tom Hartley played a crucial role, taking a seven-wicket haul that dismantled India's middle and lower order. This outstanding performance caused the Indian batters to falter, ultimately losing their momentum and managing to score only 202 runs.
