India's Test vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah has received an official reprimand and one demerit point for inappropriate physical contact with Ollie Pope during the first match of the ongoing five-match series against England in Hyderabad.

The incident, which resulted in a breach of Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct, occurred in the 81st over when Bumrah deliberately stepped in Pope’s way while he ran for a single.

Bumrah's actions violated Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct, specifically addressing "inappropriate physical contact with a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee, or any other person (including a spectator during an International Match)."

This marks Bumrah's first offense within a 24-month period, leading to the addition of one demerit point to his disciplinary record.

The incident transpired during the fourth delivery of the 81st over, a moment coinciding with India's decision to postpone taking the second new ball. On this occasion, Ollie Pope failed to connect with his attempted stroke, resulting in the ball hitting his pad and rolling away for a leg bye.

While running for a single, Jasprit Bumrah took a discernible step toward Pope, initially positioned outside the pitch and then placing one foot inside it. The shoulders of Pope and Bumrah collided, leading to a verbal exchange in the aftermath.

Following the incident, Bumrah appeared to extend an apology to Pope, raising his hand as the conversation continued. Despite the apparent apology, there remained a possibility of repercussions for Bumrah.

Accepting responsibility for the offense, Bumrah acknowledged the sanction proposed by Richie Richardson of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees. Consequently, a formal hearing was deemed unnecessary.

In a tightly contested game, England emerged victorious, defeating India by 28 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Pope played a match-winning innings in England's win, scoring an impressive 196 in challenging conditions during the second innings. On debut, left-arm spinner Tom Hartley also contributed with nine wickets in the match, which includes a memorable seven-fer in the fourth innings.
