The Qatar cricket team is set to go up against Afghanistan in a landmark three-match T20I series. The series will commence from Saturday, November 8 onwards at the West End Park International Cricket Stadium in Doha. The venue will also host the remaining two games of the series on November 9 and November 11 respectively.

The series will mark Qatar’s first-ever international bilateral assignment against a full member nation. The matches will also constitute the first-ever meeting Qatar and Afghanistan in international cricket, regardless of the format.

In a clear mismatch on paper, the Qatar cricket team is set to test its mettle against a strong Afghanistan unit at home between November 8 and November 11. Notably, the Qatar team is currently ranked 29th on the latest ICC T20I rankings with mere 113 rating points.

The Afghanistan team, on the other hand, is one of the top 10 sides in the world at the moment, ranked number 10 with 220 rating points on the updated ICC charts. Moreover, the Afghanistan team also reached the semifinal of the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup last year, and is currently a strong contender for next year’s 2026 T20 World Cup on the spin-friendly surfaces of India and Sri Lanka.
