Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions are always full of drama, surprises, and moments that set social media abuzz. This year was no different, as Rishabh Pant, the newly appointed captain of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), made headlines with his cheeky comments about Punjab Kings (PBKS). His remarks have stirred up conversations among fans, especially with his candid take on auction-day jitters.

During a press conference hosted on Star Sports, where Pant was unveiled as LSG's new captain, the star wicket-keeper shared a humorous yet telling anecdote. In a conversation with Jatin Sapru and LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka, Pant admitted his biggest worry during the auction was the possibility of being picked by Punjab Kings.

Pant confessed, “Mereko andar se ek hi tension tha, woh tha Punjab (laughs). They had the highest purse.” He further revealed how he felt relieved when PBKS snagged Shreyas Iyer for a whopping ₹26.75 crore. “When Shreyas went to Punjab, I felt I could make it to LSG. But with the auction, you never know, so I just thought I would wait and watch, fingers crossed,” he added.

Lucknow's Record-Breaking Move In IPL 2025 Mega Auction

Lucknow Super Giants made history by signing Rishabh Pant for an eye-popping ₹27 crore, making him the most expensive player in IPL history. Pant's acquisition marks a new era for LSG, as he becomes their fourth captain after KL Rahul, Nicholas Pooran, and Krunal Pandya.

This is not Pant’s first stint as an IPL captain. He previously led the Delhi Capitals (DC) from 2021 to 2024, except for the 2023 season, which he missed due to a car accident. Despite a nine-year association with DC, the franchise chose not to retain him ahead of the IPL 2025 retention deadline, citing leadership changes as a key reason.
