In the latest development, Prithvi Shaw has been asked to play in the Police Shield Invitational Tournament, where he will lead the Mumbai Colts team. For those who don’t know, this tournament features two-day matches at different venues around Mumbai.
Shaw, however, has been facing a series of setbacks recently. The 25-year-old batter was left out of Mumbai’s squad for the first three games of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He took to Instagram Stories to express his frustration, but this did not go well with many, leading to several issues coming to light.
An MCA official shared, "In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, we were playing with 10 fielders as we were forced to hide Prithvi Shaw. The ball would pass near him, and he would barely be able to get to it."
"Even while batting, we could see he was troubled reaching to the ball. His fitness, discipline and attitude are poor and it is pretty simple, there cannot be different rules for different players," the official added.
It is worth noting that Shaw made his Test debut with much excitement back in 2018 as an 18-year-old against the West Indies. His performance was impressive, scoring a century on debut, but since then, his career has slowed down.
He has only played in four more Tests, with the last one being against Australia four years ago. His ODI and T20I career has also stalled, and he hasn’t played for India in white-ball cricket since 2021.
Prithvi Shaw Faces Struggles in IPL
It’s been a tough year for Shaw, especially in the IPL. In the 2024 season, he only managed 198 runs from eight matches, with an average of 24.75. The Delhi Capitals didn’t retain him for the 2025 season, and despite his potential, he didn’t attract any bids during the mega auction.
Having been out of the Indian team since July 2021, Shaw is at a critical point in his career. He needs to reflect on his approach, improve his fitness, and work on his attitude if he hopes to make a comeback to the national team and revive his cricketing career.
