Prithvi Shaw reacted emotionally to Vijay Hazare Trophy snub [Source: @academy_dinda, @LoyalSachinFan/x.com]
It’s been a rough patch for Prithvi Shaw. When it rains, it pours, and Shaw seems to be standing right in the middle of the storm.
After going unsold in the IPL 2025 mega-auction, the opener’s fortunes haven’t turned around. Mumbai’s 17-member squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy was announced, and Shaw’s name was nowhere to be found.
Prithvi Shaw’s Explosive Post Leaves Fans Stunned
The Mumbai team, led by Shreyas Iyer, looked strong on paper, but Prithvi Shaw’s omission raised a few eyebrows. And it seems the young batter’s patience has hit its limits.
Taking to social media, Shaw poured his heart out in a post that had fans talking.
Shaw didn’t mince words. Posting his impressive List A numbers for everyone to see, he wrote:
"Tell me God, what more do I have to see… if 65 innings, 3399 runs at an average of 55.7 with a strike rate of 126, I'm not good enough... but I will keep my faith in you and hopefully people believe in me still... cause I will come back for sure.. OM SAI RAM."
And those numbers are no joke. 3399 runs in 65 innings, a stellar average of 55.7, and a strike rate of 126 – not to forget, 10 centuries, 14 half-centuries, and two double-hundreds. Those are the kind of stats that scream for selection. But despite the impressive CV, Shaw finds himself on the sidelines.
It’s clear that Shaw’s frustration has been bubbling under the surface. The post was part-defiance, part-prayer, and it struck a chord with cricket fans who know the struggles he’s been going through.
Syed Mushtaq Ali Struggles Hurt Shaw
It’s no secret that Shaw didn’t exactly set the stage on fire in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Returning to the Mumbai squad after a long break, he managed just 197 runs in 9 matches at an average of 21.88.
For someone with Shaw’s reputation, those numbers are well below par. Mumbai, on the other hand, didn’t miss a beat and went on to lift the title under Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy.
It’s a tough pill to swallow for Shaw. One tournament doesn’t define a player, but in cricket, form is everything. And with his struggles in the shortest format, the selectors had a tough call to make.
Mumbai’s Vijay Hazare Trophy squad
Mumbai is sticking with its tried-and-tested big guns. Skipper Shreyas Iyer will lead the side, with Suryakumar Yadav, Shardul Thakur, and Shivam Dube bringing experience to the table.
Ajinkya Rahane is also expected to return after the first three matches. For now, though, Shaw’s absence looms large. Mumbai opens its campaign against Karnataka on December 21, and all eyes will be on how this team performs.
