Indian cricket all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was as surprised as everyone else when Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement. The Tamil Nadu spinner, who formed a deadly spin duo with Jadeja, decided to retire after the third Test against Australia. Together, Ashwin and Jadeja had an impressive record, sharing 587 wickets in 58 matches.

Jadeja revealed he had no clue about Ashwin’s decision until just five minutes before the press conference where Ashwin made the announcement.

"I got to know about it only in the last moment. Just before when he came to address the press. I think it was 5 minutes before the press conference, people told me that this was going to happen. Obviously, I was surprised because we both were sitting together throughout that day. He didn't even give a hint. I got to know in the last minute. Yes, we all know Ashwin's mind and how it works," Jadeja shared during a press interaction.

Ashwin’s retirement announcement on December 18, following the third Test in Brisbane, came as a shock to the cricketing world. The veteran off-spinner said he was retiring immediately and returned home to Chennai the next day.

While fans and experts remain divided over the timing of Ashwin’s retirement, Jadeja stressed the importance of moving forward.

"We have to move on. In India, it's not like you won't get someone who can replace him. Everybody knows we will get someone," Jadeja added.

India’s team management has already tested several spinners in the ongoing series, with Washington Sundar and Jadeja stepping up in Ashwin’s absence.

Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin’s Reunion in IPL 2025

Although Ashwin and Jadeja have parted ways in Test cricket, fans can look forward to seeing them reunite in the IPL 2025. Jadeja, retained by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for ₹18 crore, will team up with Ashwin, who joined CSK for ₹9.75 crore after a heated auction.
