In an interesting turn of events, promising New Zealand off-spinner Eden Carson raised a million eyebrows on Friday, delivering eleven overs in a One-Day International match. The bizarre incident took place in the second ODI between New Zealand Women and Sri Lanka Women, which the former won by a whopping margin of 111 runs.

Batting first, New Zealand Women posted a mammoth total of 329 runs, thanks to scintillating tons from Amelia Kerr and skipper Sophie Devine. In response, Sri Lanka Women could crawl through to a paltry 218, despite a valiant 84-run knock from Kavisha Dilhari.

However, an incident that received more attention than the game's outcome was New Zealand's 21-year-old off-spinner Eden Carson bowling eleven instead of ten overs.

Carson, who was introduced into the attack in the seventh over, struck in her very first over, dismissing Harshitha Madavi for nine. She was extremely disciplined in her subsequent spells and finally got rid of Dilhari in the 43rd over to hit the final nail in Sri Lanka's coffin.

That was Carson's ninth over, and she should've bowled only one more to finish her quota of ten overs. But due to the oversight of the officials, she ended up delivering an extra over, finishing with impressive figures of two for 41 in eleven overs. The incident drew the attention of fans and critics, highlighting the negligence of the on-field umpires.

With the astounding victory, New Zealand Women restored parity in the three-match series. So, with the series at stake, both teams will be desperate to emerge victorious in the decider scheduled in Galle this Monday.
