Indian captain Rohit Sharma has emphasized the value of backing youngsters in the team ahead of their series-deciding second Test match against South Africa. The senior Indian cricketer justified the team management’s decision of backing young fast bowler Prasidh Krishna after he claimed just one South African wicket in his debut Test last week.

Team India is set to face South Africa in the second Test of their two-match series at Cape Town. A day before the much-awaited fixture, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma threw his support for 27-year-old fast bowler Prasidh Krishna after he returned with dismal figures from his debut Test match against South Africa at Centurion in late December.
While speaking with the reporters in the pre-match press conference, Sharma said: “As I said in the last Press Conference, we have to show confidence in the youngsters and back them and Prasidh Krishna has the potential.”
Prasidh Krishna bowled 20 overs in the South African innings at Centurion where he ended up conceding 93 runs. The speedster claimed just one wicket throughout his spell to cap a forgettable Test debut for himself.
Team India lost the match by an innings and 32 runs after they were folded up by South Africa’s raging pace attack inside the first three days.
India will now face hosts in their must-win second Test match at the Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town. The much-awaited contest will be played between January 3 and January 7. The series also constitutes a part of the ongoing 2023-25 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.
