As many as three newcomers have secured seats on the Chief Executives Committee (CEC) of the ICC. Gurumurthy Palani of France, Anurag Bhatnagar of Hong Kong and Gurdeep Klair of Canada were among the winners of the latest election organized in Singapore, beating some incumbent favorites.

Palani and Palani won the poll with 28 votes, while Klair managed to secure 21 votes. Sumod Damodar, who previously served for three terms on the CEC, received just 16 votes this time around, from the 45-member electoral college. The 45-member electoral group itself consisted of 40 associate members and five regional representatives from Americas, Asia, Europe, East Asia-Pacific and Africa.

Nonetheless, all three newly elected members are now eligible to serve the CEC for a period of two years.

Previous CEC members like Canada’s Rashpal Bajwa and Denmark’s Umair Butt pulled themselves out of the latest ICC elections. Notably, the outbound Sumod Damodar came up with some bold initiatives during his time at the CEC, including making efforts to revive the disbanded Afro-Asia Cup.

Despite finishing fourth and losing the race by bagging just 16 votes, Damodar said that he will continue his commitment towards the game.
