In a significant development, the International Cricket Council (ICC) updated the Test rankings on Wednesday afternoon. While legendary England batter Joe Root dethroned Harry Brook as the top-ranked Test batter, the Indian trio of Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant witnessed significant demotions.
Brook, Gill, Pant, Jaiswal Move Down; Root Claims Top Spot In ICC Test Rankings
Harry Brook, who was crowned as the number one Test batter, moved one place down following his twin failures in the Lord's Test against India. The swashbuckling batter managed only 34 runs across two innings.
As a result, he is among the prominent names to witness a demotion in the batters' chart alongside Shubman Gill (three places down to ninth), Yashasvi Jaiswal (one spot down to fifth) and Rishabh Pant (one spot down to eighth).
Meanwhile, Joe Root's stellar show at Lord's helped him earn crucial rating points and replace Brook as the new number one ranked Test batter. The talismanic cricketer slammed a sensational hundred in the first innings, setting the foundation for England's eventual narrow win over their counterparts.
Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who headlined India's resistance with a magnificent knock in the second innings, jumped five rungs to number 34 in the ICC rankings for batters.
Jadeja smashed valiant fifties in both innings of the Test match, giving India something to cheer about despite the loss at Lord's.
Boland, Shamar Gain Big In Bowlers' Rankings
Jasprit Bumrah retained the first position in the Test bowlers' rankings, while West Indies pacer Shamar Joseph moved 15 places up to number 14 on the list. Australian spearhead Scott Boland also made notable progress, entering the top ten and finishing at sixth following a sensational hattrick in the Jamaica Test.
