India will take on Prime Minister's XI in a Pink-Ball warm-up match before the second Test match against Australia in Adelaide. The match will provide India a great chance to test their bench strength and get ample practice before the day-night match against the Aussies.
India won the first Test match in Perth comfortably and have taken a 1-0 lead in the series. They have now been boosted with the arrival of skipper Rohit Sharma, who missed the first match due to the birth of his child.
Also, Shubman Gill has started practising and could feature in the match against the Prime Minister's XI.
Who are Prime Minister's XI?
Prime Minister's XI is a cricket team picked by the current Prime Minister of Australia (Anthony Albanese). The upcoming stars of Australia generally get featured in the squad, but this time around, some of the big names like Scott Boland will also feature against the Indian team.
It is a tradition for the PM XI side to play against the visiting team at the Manuka Oval. Earlier it was played in an ODI format, but since 2022, the format has changed and now the game takes place in a four-day format.
Why are India playing PM XI in the middle of Test series?
The second Test between India and Australia will be a Pink-Ball Test and to get used to the conditions of the Pink ball, the match is taking place before the start of the second Test in Adelaide.
Unlike a red-ball, the Pink ball swings a bit more and the batters need time to adjust to the conditions and behaviour of the ball. Hence, the match has been schedule to allow the Indian side to acclimitise to the conditions.
