In a significant development, former captains Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and star pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi have been left out of the T20I squads for the upcoming tours of Bangladesh and the West Indies. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), in consultation with white-ball head coach Mike Hesson, and Agha Salman, opted to exclude the senior trio amid concerns over form, team dynamics, and internal behaviour as per a report by Geo Sports quoted by NDTV Sports.

Performance And Attitude Under The Scanner

According to sources close to the PCB, the selectors based their decision on recent underwhelming performances in white-ball cricket, including Pakistan’s series defeat to South Africa earlier this year. Babar Azam and Rizwan were dropped shortly after and have remained on the sidelines since.

Despite Shaheen Afridi's strong performance in PSL, the same reports cited that issues with his attitude and cooperation with team management are the reason for the selectors to take a firm stance against him.

It is also important to mention that Head coach Mike Hesson reportedly met Babar, Rizwan, and Shaheen Afridi during preparatory sessions in Lahore. The final squad was selected during a crucial meeting of the revamped national selection committee.

The committee includes Aaqib Javed, Aleem Dar, captain Agha Salman, and new members Sarfaraz Ahmed and Sikandar Bakht.

Pakistan's Tour Schedule

Pakistan will play a three-match series against Bangladesh on July 20, 22, and 24, followed by three T20Is and three ODIs against the West Indies in Florida, USA. The first T20I against WI will be played on July 31, followed by the second and third on August 2 and 3, respectively.

The squad for both the series will feature several new faces, marking a transition phase for Pakistan. While the official squad is yet to be released, the exclusion of three of Pakistan's most recognizable names reflects a major cultural and strategic reset within the team setup.
