The Indian Premier League (IPL) mini-auction is still a few months away, but teams are already planning for the future as they aim to bolster their squads for the next edition of the cash-rich league. One of the sides which did well last season, but failed to cross the final hurdle was the Punjab Kings.

The side added fresh faces in the squad, and under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, they reached the finale, but lost to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. However, despite a successful season, the franchise is looking to freshen things up, and are planning an overhaul.

Stoinis, Chahal to be released?

Ahead of the mini-auction, a shocking development has emerged. The franchise is looking to release Marcus Stoinis and Yuzvendra Chahal ahead of the next season. As per News24, the Punjab Kings side will try to free up a massive 29 crores.

The expectations were high when PBKS signed both players for a hefty price, but things didn't work out as planned. Stoinis did play a couple of explosive knocks, but overall, he wasn't as effective as he was for the Lucknow Super Giants.

The same was the case with Chahal. He was outstanding for the Rajasthan Royals, but wasn't at his best for the Punjab Kings, despite picking up 16 wickets. From the 2024 season, his economy rate last season was higher, and it almost touched 10 runs per over.

Reports state that PBKS will try and free 18 crore by releasing him, and could go for a younger spinner.

Where should the duo join if they are released?

One franchise that could target the duo is the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Both have previously represented the franchise, and RCB do need a quality spinner in their ranks; who better than Chahal? The wily spinner is the leading wicket-taker in the league and could still be an asset for the side.

As for Stoinis, he could be a direct replacement for Liam Livingstone, who, RCB are reportedly planning to trade/release ahead of the mini auction.
