As per the latest developments, Australia skipper Pat Cummins might be included in the Playing XI for the second Ashes Test at the Gabba.
On Tuesday, Cummins was seen training in a net session at Brisbane, following which, Cricket Australia has also ruled out the possibility of Pat Cummins not being featured in the playing XI on December 4.
Pat Cummins might play Gabba Test
According to a BBC Sport report, "Australia refused to rule out the possibility of him being included in the XI at the Gabba," and the team has delayed naming their lineup for the 2nd Test from the anticipated schedule.
Why did Cricket Australia delay the announcement?
Notably, after the net session, Pat Cummins was seen having a discussion with head coach Andrew McDonald and selector George Bailey, after which the 32-year-old was seen hugging McDonald.
As per the report, it has also been confirmed that the Playing XI will not be out before the toss on December 4.
Smith on Cummins' fitness levels ahead of Gabba battle
The current stand-in captain of Australia, Steve Smith, echoed the sentiment of Cummins' return and hinted at the delay earlier in the day.
"A whole heap of things are on the table. We'll wait and see what the wicket looks like later, and from there we'll determine a playing XI," Smith said.
Speaking of Cummins's fitness, Steve added, "He looks pretty good to me; he's bowled in the nets. Obviously games are different in intensity, but he's tracking nicely. He's feeling good. He's bowling nicely in the nets."
Significantly, if Pat Cummins makes his return, he could take the place of frontline pacer Brendan Doggett, who made his Test debut at Perth.
Notably, England haven't named their Playing XI as captain Ben Stokes confirmed that they are waiting for any update from the host's side.
