In a significant development, Australia captain Pat Cummins is doubtful to feature in all five Tests in the Ashes later this year. Notably, the right-arm seamer is struggling with a back injury, which might rule him out of a few games against England.

According to a report from the Telegraph, Cummins underwent a few scans after complaining of back stiffness, and the results were more serious than earlier thought. The report added that Cricket Australia will not risk with Pat Cummins' future and might not feature the 32-year-old in the first few games.

Pat Cummins Likely To Follow Jasprit Bumrah's Footsteps

It is reported that Cricket Australia might carefully plan Cummins' workload and are open to the idea of just featuring him in three to four games. In such a scenario, Steve Smith is set to lead the Baggy Greens during England's visit down under in November.

Further, Cummins is likely to follow Jasprit Bumrah's footsteps. Notably, Bumrah, who too suffers from a fragile back, played only three matches against England during the recently concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

India have been managing Bumrah's workload and it has reaped results for the Shubman Gill-led side.

Cummins To Miss New Zealand T20I Tour

Australia’s Test captain Pat Cummins is reportedly set to miss the upcoming three-match T20I tour of New Zealand in October. According to CODE Sports, the 32-year-old will undergo routine scans on his back after experiencing tightness since returning from the Caribbean tour last month.

Cummins had already skipped Australia’s white-ball series against the West Indies and South Africa earlier this year and had already been taking precautions to be fully prepared for Ashes, arguably the biggest Test battle in cricket's history.
