Team India continued their winning streak at the 2023 ODI World Cup, triumphing over Sri Lanka by a whopping 302 runs at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. This victory has put India's position as the first team to advance to the semifinals.

Opting to bat first, Team India delivered a batting clinic with exceptional performances from Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, and Shreyas Iyer, who hammered the Sri Lankan bowlers all over the park, and propelling India's total to a colossal 357 runs.

While Shubman Gill scored a run-a-ball 92, Virat Kohli hammered 88 runs, and Shreyas Iyer, who had an underwhelming performance in the World Cup so far, finally got off the mark by clobbering 82 runs from 56 balls.

Sri Lanka's reply got off to a nightmarish start, with India's leading fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, claiming the first wicket on the very first delivery of their innings, sending opener Pathum Nissanka back to the pavilion without scoring.

Meanwhile, the Kolkata Knight Riders, the IPL franchise owned by Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan, posted a heartwarming tribute to Jasprit Bumrah. They shared a photo of him on X [Formerly Twitter] alongside Shahrukh Khan from the movie 'Pathaan' and added the caption:

“Party Bumrah ke ghar me rakhoge toh…”

That was the lone wicket for Jasprit Bumrah in the match, and he never got another shot at it. Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj were the real tormentors, ripping through the Sri Lankan batting lineup, bowling them out for just 55 runs in 19.4 overs. Shami took five wickets, and Siraj contributed three to the party.

Jasprit Bumrah is currently India's top wicket-taker in the tournament, racking up 15 wickets in seven matches, while Mohammed Shami is rapidly catching up, having claimed 14 wickets in only three matches he has played.
