According to the Press Trust of India (PTI), a conflict has surfaced between Chief Selector Wahab Riaz and certain Pakistan cricketers, who are reportedly not happy with the alleged delay in the issuance of NOCs for their involvement in foreign leagues like the Big Bash League in Australia.

There are also reports that Imad Wasim's retirement from international cricket might be attributed to the reported delays by the PCB in issuing NOCs for players to engage in foreign leagues.

“Wahab has made it clear to all centrally-contracted players that their first priority is to play for Pakistan and also insisted that anyone wanting to be considered for selection to the national team has to make appearances in domestic cricket,” said the source.

The source further added that Imad decided to retire as he had contracts lined up for lucrative T10 and T20 leagues in the UAE, Australia and South Africa.

“Imad and some other players are yet to be issued NOCs for the T10 league in Abu Dhabi while the board has also not taken a decision on issuing NOCs for the Big Bash in Australia,” he added.

In a recent statement to the media, PCB chief Zaka Ashraf revealed a new board policy, stipulating that centrally-contracted players are allowed to participate in only one league alongside the Pakistan Super League.

Zaka Ashraf linked Pakistan's disappointing performance in the recent World Cup in India to his predecessor's choice of granting NOCs to players for participation in various leagues before the Asia Cup.

Wahab, formerly active in franchise cricket and gearing up for the next PSL, underscored the need for centrally-contracted players to manage their commitments, ensuring a balance between national duties and franchise leagues to meet PCB's requirement of fitness for various assignments.

Here it is worth mentioning that not all players are pleased with Wahab and Zaka's firm stand, and there's a sense of anticipation as they await NOCs for the upcoming leagues. Haris Rauf, who withdrew from consideration for the Australia Test series, and other players have already committed to the T10 league and the upcoming Big Bash League.
