In a heartbreaking turn of events, Fatima Sana, the captain of the Pakistan Women’s Cricket Team, has lost her father today in Karachi. The young skipper is currently leading Pakistan in the Women’s T20 World Cup in the UAE but is expected to return home to be with her family during this difficult time.
According to a statement from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Sana is set to take the first available flight to Karachi on Thursday, where she will join her family members.
Fatima Sana To Return Home After Father's Decease
Fatima Sana’s absence will be a significant setback for the Pakistan Women’s team as they prepare to face formidable opponents Australia on Friday in Dubai. Muneeba Ali, an experienced member of the team, is slated to step in as captain in Sana’s stead.
This game is critical for Pakistan, who need at least one victory, preferably two, from their remaining Group A matches to have a realistic chance of reaching the semi-finals.
Fatima Sana's Crucial Contribution In T20 World Cup
Fatima Sana has made a powerful impact since the start of the tournament. Her leadership and on-field skills have been instrumental to Pakistan's campaign. Pakistan began with a stunning victory over Sri Lanka Women, with Sana playing a pivotal role by contributing 30 runs and taking two crucial wickets.
Despite a narrow loss to India in their second match, Sana’s performance was again noteworthy. Her bowling prowess shone as she claimed back-to-back wickets of Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma, giving India a brief scare.
After the match against Australia, Pakistan Women will conclude the group stage with a game against New Zealand on Monday, also in Dubai.
