In a day that will likely haunt Pakistan cricket for years to come, Babar Azam's dropped catch on Day 4 of the first Test against England in Multan allowed Joe Root and Harry Brook to seize control of the match. Root was handed an unexpected lifeline early in the morning session, which he promptly used to lead England past Pakistan's first-innings total of 556 with seven wickets in hand.

Babar Azam's Drop Catch That Shifted the Tide

Pakistan’s bowlers, already exhausted by England’s disciplined batting lineup, desperately needed a breakthrough on Thursday morning to keep their hopes alive. The English players, however, had other plans, resuming their partnership with an aggressive intent.

The duo scored at nearly a run-a-ball in the opening session, combining for 166 runs off just 29 overs and setting a blistering pace that quickly turned the match in England’s favor.

In only the fourth over of the day, Root found himself at the edge of a milestone, nearing 200 runs, when Naseem Shah managed to induce a rare false stroke.

Naseem, with a short delivery, tempted Root into an ill-timed pull shot, which sent the ball straight toward Babar Azam, who was positioned perfectly at short mid-wicket. As the ball approached, Babar crouched to take what should have been a regulation catch, but the moment slipped away as quickly as it arrived.

The former Pakistan skipper appeared slow to react, failing to get his hands into position in time. The ball dropped from his grasp, and a look of disbelief flashed across his face.

The moment was not lost on fans and critics alike, as reactions flooded social media, with some labeling the drop as one of the costliest blunders in recent memory. Twitter was abuzz with reactions to Babar Azam's costly drop, with many fans expressing disbelief at the missed chance.
