When BAN defeated PAK [Source: @ICC/X.com]
Pakistan and Bangladesh have always had intense battles against each other and the rivalry started way back in 1999 when the two sides met in the 50-over World Cup. The two collided in the group stage match in Northampton and Pakistan were the firm favourites to win the contest.
However, what transpired was one of the greatest upsets in cricket history as the Tigers, who were still finding their feet in the international circuit caused a mayhem as Pakistan were crumbled against a spirited side.
Bangladesh score gritty 223/9
Bangladesh in overcast conditions looked astute against a quality Pakistan bowling attack which had the likes of Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and Shoaib Akhtar. The openers added 69 runs for the opening wicket as Pakistan bowlers were erratic and bowled a dozen wides and no balls.
Every batter got decent starts, but none of them got big scores as Pakistan continued to churn out wickets. Khaled Mahmud (27) and Khaled Mashud (15) scored some valuable runs as the Tigers scored 223/9 in 50 overs.
Pakistan batters crumble under pressure
It was expected that Pakistan will chase down the total with ease, but Bangladesh had some other plans as the Pakistan team lost half the side for a paltry 42 runs.
The Tigers were right on top as they smelled an easy win. However, Azhar Mahmood, Wasim Akram and the tail-enders frustrated the opposition bowlers as they scored crucial runs in the prospect of the match.
But, once Wasim Akram departed for 29, the batting lineup crumbled and the side got bundled out for 161, giving Bangladesh a monumental 62-run win.
