Buttler to step down? [Source: AP Photos]
England suffered a jolt on Wednesday as a spirited Afghanistan side defeated them in the Champions Trophy group stage match to knock the Three Lions out of the tournament. The entire team has come under scrutiny after a shambolic run, but captain Jos Buttler is at the centre of attraction for his captaincy.
The England skipper has lost his last 7 matches, reflecting England's poor performances in the 50-over format. After the exit from the ICC mega event, Buttler's place has also come under threat, as this is England's successive group stage elimination from a 50-over ICC tournament.
Buttler to relinquish captaincy?
The team has hit rock bottom as England cricket look to revive their cricket after a shocking group stage exit. After the loss against Afghanistan, captain Jos Buttler was asked about his place in the team and was also questioned about whether he is planning to relinquish the captaincy of the England side.
“Yeah, I think obviously the results aren’t where they need to be and I personally need to consider all possibilities. And like I said, obviously, we need to get us as a team back to where England cricket needs to be in the white ball formats. And I think I’ve got to work out personally am I part of the problem or am I part of the solution?”, Buttler stated.
“As I said, I’m not going to make any emotional decisions right here, right now. You’re probably not the first people I’d discuss that with. And take a little bit of time to just work out personally what I think is right.
Buttler's place in England side remains uncertain
Jos Buttler also disappointed with the bat and failed to deliver the goods in the first two matches. The England skipper discussed his own personal form and admitted that his batting has been problematic as he only has a solitary century in the last 58 innings (ODIs and T20Is).
