In a dramatic turn of events, several T20 World Cup-bound players from the USA have been denied entry into India for the showpiece event due to their connection with Pakistan. As per the latest update, a number of the USA's prominent Pakistan-born cricketers, including Ali Khan, Shayan Jahangir, Ehsan Adil, and Mohammad Mohsin, haven't been granted the visa to travel to India for the T20 World Cup 2026.
Ali Khan confirms India's visa denial for Pakistan-born USA players
The impact of India and Pakistan's strained geopolitical relationship on their cricketing ties isn't alien to the avid followers of the game. India refrained from any kind of bilateral cricket against Pakistan, barring a home series in 2012-13, after finding the latter's involvement in the barbaric Mumbai terror attack.
Since then, the Pakistani players have been banned from participating in the IPL, while Pakistan-origin cricketers from other countries have faced significant challenges in receiving the Indian visa for cricketing events in the Asian nation.
The latest crop of players to join the list are Ali Khan, Shayan Jahangir, Ehsan Adil, and Mohammad Mohsin, who have been denied the Indian visa for the T20 World Cup. The development was confirmed by Ali Khan through one of his social media posts with a caption, "India visa denied but KFC for the win."
The post was shared by renowned cricket journalist Peter Della Penna, who has covered the game extensively at the highest level. Notably, Ali Khan is a well-known Pakistan-origin American cricketer, having also represented the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL. In 18 matches, Ali Khan has bagged 16 wickets at a strike rate of 24 and is a part of the USA's provisional squad for the T20 World Cup 2026.
Shayan Jahangir is one of the USA's key batters, while Ehsan Adil is a fast bowler who has previously played for Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Mohsin is a leg spinner from the United States, who has 24 T20 wickets across 33 appearances. Given that most of these players were supposed to be a part of the USA's playing XI, India's visa denial has certainly affected their participation in the T20 World Cup 2026.
USA's T20 World Cup 2026 schedule
Led by Monank Patel, the United States of America is placed in group A alongside arch-rivals India and Pakistan, as well as the Netherlands and Namibia. They will kickstart their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign against hosts India at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. After that, the United States will face Pakistan, the Netherlands, and Namibia in their subsequent group-stage affairs in Colombo and Chennai, respectively.
The United States had an impressive T20 World Cup campaign in the 2024 edition of the tournament. Although they incurred crushing defeats against England, South Africa, India, and the West Indies, the Monank Patel-led side sent shockwaves by registering a memorable win over Pakistan in the group stage. They also defeated Canada, courtesy of an Aaron Jones' masterclass, making a historic entry to the Super Eight stage.
