Shaheen and Rauf might not be a part of Pak squad for SA T20Is [Source: AFP]
According to emerging reports, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selection committee might rest ace speedster Shaheen Afridi for the upcoming T20I series against South Africa. Shaheen, who was also a part of the Asia Cup 2025, is currently playing the Test series against the visiting South African side. However, if reports are to be believed, the left-arm seamer might be rested for the T20I leg of the tour, with the PCB aiming to manage his workload ahead of next year's T20 World Cup.
Shaheen could be rested, Pakistan likely to drop Haris Rauf for SA T20Is
Shaheen Afridi played a pivotal role in powering Pakistan to the Asia Cup final. He emerged as Pakistan's go-to man with the ball in the Asia Cup, scalping ten wickets in seven matches. In fact, Shaheen's excellent Asia Cup performance paved the way for his Test comeback.
However, as reported by renowned Pakistani journalist Saleem Khaliq on Cricket Pakistan, Shaheen will likely be rested for the South Africa T20Is to manage his workload. Meanwhile, Haris Rauf, who was smashed for 50 runs in just 3.4 overs in the Asia Cup final against India, might be dropped for the series. Although Rauf is Pakistan's most successful T20I bowler, his knack for leaking runs is the primary reason why the Men in Green could consider dropping him from their T20I squad for the South Africa series.
Shadab Khan unlikely to return for SA T20Is
Veteran all-rounder Shadab Khan, who missed the Asia Cup 2025 due to injury, has resumed training after recovering from shoulder surgery. However, he has yet to receive fitness clearance and hence won't likely be included in Pakistan's squad for the South Africa T20Is. That said, he is in the mix for the 2026 T20 World Cup and might make his way back to Pakistan's T20I setup for the home tri-series against Sri Lanka and Afghanistan in November.
