In a significant development, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has updated the men's player rankings. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who hammered a belligerent hundred in the second Test against West Indies, has become the top-ranked Indian batter in the format, while Afghanistan ace Rashid Khan has dethroned Keshav Maharaj to become the new number one bowler in ODI cricket.
Jaiswal, Kuldeep, Ibrahim, Rashid make rapid progress in ICC rankings
Yashasvi Jaiswal starred with the bat for India in the Delhi Test, scoring 175 runs in the first innings. His glorious innings helped him earn two spots and move to the fifth position on the Test batters' list.
On a similar note, Kuldeep Yadav's match-winning spell in the second Test against the West Indies ensured he moved seven places up to number 14 in the Test bowlers' rankings. Kuldeep was instrumental in India's clinical win in the Delhi Test, scalping eight wickets across both innings of the game.
On the other hand, Afghanistan's opening batter Ibrahim Zadran, who struck 213 runs against Bangladesh, jumped eight spots to number two in the ODI batters' rankings. Currently, he has more rating points (764) than India's talismanic duo of Virat Kohli (736) and Rohit Sharma (756), who are sitting at the third and fifth positions, respectively.
Meanwhile, after destroying Bangladesh with his spin-bowling mastery, Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan climbed five spots up to dethrone Keshav Maharaj and claim the first position in the ODI bowlers' rankings. Rashid made the most of the spin-friendly conditions in the UAE, bagging eleven wickets across three matches at an incredible average of 6.09.
Azmatullah Omarzai has also reaped rewards for his excellent returns in the Bangladesh series. The all-rounder, who scalped seven wickets and scored 60 runs in the three-match series, now sits at the top in the ODI all-rounders' rankings.
