The upcoming Asia Cup 2025 is all set to happen in a hybrid model, with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) confirmed as the main host. This news was officially announced on July 26 by Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief Mohsin Naqvi, following a meeting in Dhaka.

However, even before the tournament begins, Pakistan has suffered a major blow. Their white-ball vice-captain, Shadab Khan, is likely to miss the Asia Cup due to a recurring shoulder injury.

Pakistan Suffer Major Setback Ahead Of Asia Cup 2025

According to a source from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Shadab has been struggling with shoulder issues for a while now. As a result, the board’s medical team has recommended that he undergo surgery. He is expected to fly to London for the procedure soon, and the recovery process will take at least three months.

Shadab, who is one of Pakistan most experienced players in limited-overs cricket, had recently played in a home series against Bangladesh, which Pakistan won 3-0. Unfortunately, due to his shoulder problem, he has already missed Pakistan’s white-ball series in Bangladesh, and now it looks like he will also be ruled out of the Asia Cup 2025.

"If the Asia Cup is held in September, Shadab will also miss that event," the source said as quoted by NDTV.

The 26-year-old all-rounder has a solid track record with 6 Test matches, 70 ODIs, and 112 T20 Internationals to his name.

Meanwhile, the Asia Cup 2025 is shaping up to be an exciting event. One of the most anticipated matches will be the India vs Pakistan clash on September 14. Interestingly, if both teams perform well, they could face each other up to three times, in the group stage, Super 4s, and possibly the final.

To give a bit of background, the Asia Cup was first held in 1983 and is organized every two years to decide the best cricket team in Asia. The 2025 edition will be the 17th time the tournament is played. There will be eight teams, split into two groups, and the top two from each group will move to the Super 4 stage. After that, the top two teams will play the final on September 28.
