India to face Pakistan in Asia Cup 2025 [Source: @HaanaaOfficial/x]
The Indian government has taken a strong stand against Pakistan in sports in the wake of the deadly terrorist attack that took place in Pahalgam earlier this year by Pakistan-sponsored extremists. The government has declared that Indian athletes and sports teams will not be facing Pakistan in any bilateral competitions, and also will not be allowed to travel to Pakistan for any sporting event.
However, Indian sportspersons will still be allowed to face Pakistan in international tournaments involving multiple nations, like Asia Cup, World Cups or Champions Trophy in cricket’s case.
MYAS Counter Pakistan In Strong Terror Stance
On Thursday, August 21; the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) confirmed that the Indian government will not be allowing any Indian sports team to participate in sporting events in Pakistan. Moreover, Pakistani athletes and sportspersons will also not be allowed to travel and play in India, in terms of bilateral at least.
However, the MYAS also confirmed that in international tournaments like multi-nation events, they will be “guided by the practices of international sporting bodies”, as reported by ANI.
It is worth noting that MYAS dropped their latest bombshell ahead of India’s planned fixtures against Pakistan in the upcoming 2025 Men’s T20 Cricket Asia Cup in the UAE. The Asia Cup is organised by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) in compliance with the member nations.
In cricket, the Indian government and the BCCI have already boycotted Pakistan in bilateral series for over a decade, considering their previous bilateral meeting occurred back in January 2013. Since then, the two arch-rivals have been facing each other only in ICC or ACC tournaments like World Cups, T20 World Cup, Champions Trophy and Asia Cup matches.
