The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially announced the nominees for the ICC Men's T20I Cricketer of the Year on December 29, 2024, with four standout players making the cut for the prestigious award.
The list features players who have been exceptional in the shortest format of the game, and this year’s nominations reflect a blend of power hitters, bowlers, and all-rounders.
The Nominees For ICC Men's T20I Cricketer of the Year
Arshdeep Singh (India)
Arshdeep Singh’s rise as India’s primary pacer in T20Is has been impressive. While Jasprit Bumrah remains India's all-format bowler, Arshdeep has carved out a niche for himself, especially in T20 cricket.
With 36 wickets in just 18 matches, he is India’s second-best wicket-taker in T20Is, trailing only Bhuvneshwar Kumar's 37 wickets from 2022. He has been sensational across different conditions, playing a crucial role for India at home and away matches.
Sikandar Raza (Zimbabwe)
Sikandar Raza continues to challenge his age and expectations in T20Is. At 38, he has remained at the forefront of Zimbabwe’s T20I fortunes. For the third consecutive year, he has been shortlisted among the top players of the format.
With his all-round performance, he led Zimbabwe to an unbeaten campaign in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup sub-regional Africa Qualifier Group B. He made 199 runs and scalped 10 wickets for Zimbabwe.
Babar Azam (Pakistan)
Despite a mixed year for Pakistan in the shortest format of the game, Babar Azam remained their most consistent player. He finished the year as Pakistan's top run-scorer, with a strike rate of 133.21.
He is already on the brink of breaking Rohit Sharma’s record as the highest run-scorer in T20I format, sitting just eight runs behind the Indian captain. Although the team’s overall performance has been inconsistent, Babar's individual brilliance remains a beacon of hope for Pakistan.
Travis Head (Australia)
In 2024, Travis Head emerged as one of Australia’s most celebrated T20I batters. He has showcased his destructive abilities and finished the year with 539 runs with a strike rate of 178.47, the second-highest ever for an Australian in a calendar year.
Whether opening the innings or coming in at a critical stage, his ability to turn matches definitely make him a constant threat. He impressed with his explosive cameos in the IPL, as well as in the T20 World Cup 2024.
