In the latest development, the ICC has announced the Men’s Player of the Month nominees for September 2024, featuring three players who delivered extraordinary performances. The first on the list is Australian opener Travis Head. Sri Lankan standouts Prabath Jayasuriya and Kamindu Mendis are the other two shortlisted candidates, each making remarkable contributions to their respective teams.

Travis Head's Extraordinary Recent Performances

Travis Head’s scintillating form in white-ball cricket was instrumental for Australia as he showcased his prowess on their recent tour of England and Scotland. The left-handed opener, known for his aggressive stroke play, slammed 182 runs in five T20I matches in September, boasting an extraordinary strike rate of 245.94.

His impressive run extended into the ODI series against England, where he scored 248 runs across four innings, maintaining an average of 82.66 and a strike rate of 120.97.

Prabath Jayasuriya Significant Performance For Sri Lanka

Sri Lankan left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya continued to establish himself as a force in Test cricket, leading his team to a series victory over New Zealand in September. Jayasuriya took nine wickets in each of the two Test matches. His 5/68 in the first Test was instrumental in bowling out New Zealand. In the second Test, Jayasuriya produced a match-winning 6/42, securing a comfortable win for Sri Lanka.

His efforts over the month saw him pick up 21 wickets at an average of 27.90 in three Test matches. He also reached a significant personal milestone, becoming the fastest Sri Lankan bowler to reach 100 Test wickets in just 16 matches.

Kamindu Mendis: The Rising Star Of Sri Lanka

Kamindu Mendis has made a remarkable start to his Test career, building on his debut success with an extraordinary month in September. The 25-year-old left-handed batter made 451 runs in four Tests at an impressive average of 90.20, displaying rare consistency for a newcomer.

His standout performance came in the second Test against New Zealand, where he scored an unbeaten 182 to help Sri Lanka post a commanding first-innings total of 602/5 declared.

Additionally, Mendis scored a vital 114 in the first Test, which enabled his team to recover from a precarious position and eventually secure a 63-run victory. He also reached the 1,000-run mark in Test cricket in just eight matches and 13 innings, equalling Don Bradman’s record as the fastest batter to achieve this feat in over 75 years
