Mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed has unexpectedly withdrawn from the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) a day before, and the real reason behind the abrupt exit was explained later.
As per the cricketer himself, his name was included in the BPL auction without his prior knowledge, and he wasn’t willing to play the league or come up in the BPL mega auction to be up for bids.
Selected by the Chattogram Royals for the auction, Abrar Ahmed clarified he had not consented to participation, leading the franchise to replace him and notify the board.
Why Abrar Ahmed might have rejected BPL 2025-26
Abrar’s denial to play BPL might have stemmed from his commitment towards national duties, as Pakistan is all set to face Sri Lanka for the T2OI series from January 7 onwards.
This also serves as a crucial preparation path for the players ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026, which begins in February.
Notably, Abrar made just a single appearance in the BPL in the 2022 edition, where he gave away 22 runs from his four overs and went wicketless.
Apart from BPL, Abrar has played MLC and PSL, where in the latter he boasts a tally of 39 wickets from 29 matches.
