Dasun Shanaka has been pretty successful captain for Sri Lanka and under his leadership, the young Lankan team has punched above its weight and his captaincy stint has marked the reemergence of Sri Lanka as a strong force in Asia. They won the Asia Cup 2022 and reached the final of the 2023 edition as well. However, his own form has been a subject of debate as he has failed to deliver consistently with his all-round skills. There were reports that he could be removed as captain but with World Cup around the corner, the decision has been postponed and Shanaka is all set to lead Sri Lanka in World Cup.

Dasun Shanaka averages just 22.29 with the bat in 67 ODIs he has played and has taken 27 wickets with the ball in hand. He is a talented seam-bowling all-rounder but he has not backed up with consistent performances and Sri Lanka would be hoping that he delivers the good in the all-important World Cup.

Sri Lanka have still not announced their World Cup squad with fitness of star players like Wanindu Hasaranga and Dushmantha Chameera still a concern. Sri Lanka have recently found some good quality young players like Matheesha Pathirana, Dunith Wellalage and Sadeera Samarawickrama and it would be interesting to see how their final squad of 15 shapes up. They are likely to announce their squad soon and would be looking to put up a good performance in the World Cup after a promising Asia Cup campaign.
