Mohammed Shami - (Source:@Johns/X.com)
In a significant development, there are reports that Mohammed Shami is unlikely to travel to Australia anytime soon, not for the first Test at least, as the BCCI doesn't want to rush him by sending him Down Under.
In a report by Cricbuzz, BCCI is impressed by Shami's recent return to competitive cricket in the Ranji Trophy but wants to see more of him before deciding on his inclusion in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Shami Likely To Feature In Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy
Further, the report added that the apex cricket board of India wants Shami to play for Bengali in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy that begins on November 23. Thus, in that case, Shami's inclusion in the first BGT Test is ruled out as WACA in Perth will host the series opener on November 22.
Talking about his domestic cricket return, Shami made a comeback nearly a year, as Bengal faced Madhya Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy 2025. Shami shone with the ball and picked up seven wickets, including MP skipper Rajat Patidar. The right-arm seamer also contributed with the bat.
Rohit Sharma To Fly To Australia But Dates Uncertain
The same report from Cricuzz mentioned that Rohit Sharma, who recently welcomed fatherhood for the second time, will soon travel to Australia, but the dates are not known.
It is almost certain that Rohit will miss the series opener in Perth. Hence, the BCCI has asked India A batter Devdutt Padikkal to stay back in Australia for the first Test as a back-up opener while the rest of the India A squad departed for India on November 16.
Earlier, the report mentioned that BCCI is contemplating between Sai Sudharsan and Padikkal and it looks like the Roger Binny-led board has shown faith in the latter.
