Nic Maddinson, who was diagnosed with testicular cancer earlier this year, is all set to return to competitive cricket. The 33-year-old has signed with the Sydney Thunder for the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL) 2025-26. He has made himself fit to play cricket while battling cancer.
Maddinson completed nine weeks of chemotherapy in July earlier this year and is not fit to return to playing competitive cricket. Speaking about his return, he said that being back with the Sydney Thunder despite missing the entire last season made him very happy.
"I'm really happy to be staying with Thunder. There's been a few setbacks for myself lately, but I've had amazing support from my friends, family and the club. Now I'm just keen to lock in, get the season started and hopefully help the boys go one better than last year," stated Maddinson,

Speaking about his return, Sydney Thunder's general manager, Trent Copeland, stated that he was excited for Maddinson to return. He also backed the top-order batter to do well in the upcoming season.
"We are pleased to have Maddo re-sign with us at Sydney Thunder. I know how eager he was to play in front of the Thunder Nation before his injury, and I know that eagerness has doubled since then. We're backing Maddo to make a real impact this season, both at the crease and through his leadership around the team," said Copeland.
Maddinson has played for four different teams in the Big Bash League so far. He began his career with the Sydney Sixers and stayed with them for seven seasons. He then played for the Melbourne Stars for three years and the Melbourne Renegades for the same number of years before moving to the Sydney Thunder.
