New Zealand cricketers, including Trent Boult, Tom Latham, and Mitchell Santner, have expressed their admiration for kabaddi after their recent World Cup assignment in India. The trio believes that their teammates Glenn Phillips, Daryl Mitchell, and Tim Southee would excel in the sport known for its 'raiders' and 'defenders.'

Boult, a prominent pacer, endorsed Mitchell and Southee for kabaddi, emphasizing their strong physique suited for the demanding nature of the game. Latham drew parallels between kabaddi and rugby, a beloved sport in New Zealand, suggesting that the physicality of kabaddi resonates with the country's rugby culture.

Here's what he said:

"I've watched it a couple of times. I think you need strong legs for the sport. I would put up Daryl Mitchell and Tim Southee's names for this game."

The players were intrigued by the popularity of kabaddi in India, acknowledging the country's dominance in the sport. India's success in kabaddi, including seven out of eight gold medals in Asian Games history, and the thriving Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) have captured the attention of athletes worldwide.

Expressing interest in the sport's physicality, Latham nominated Glenn Phillips, describing him as a "powerful pocket rocket." Santner suggested Lockie Ferguson, known for his strong core and legs, as a potential kabaddi player.

"It looks like a pretty physical game. It looks similar to rugby, with guys teaming up to stop one guy getting across the line. I would nominate Glenn Phillips for this sport. He's a powerful pocket rocket," said Latham

The New Zealand cricketers were captivated by the teamwork and athleticism displayed in kabaddi, signaling a potential shift for some players from cricket to this dynamic Indian sport.
