The Afghanistan Cricket Board has shared details on their upcoming India tour, scheduled to take place in the month of January, next year. Afghanistan will take on India in a three-match T20I series, the schedule of which has now been announced.

The first T20I will be played on 11th January 2024 at Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali. Holkar Cricket Stadium will host the second T20I, to be played on 14th January, while the third and final T20I will take place on 17th January 2023 at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.

The two teams have taken on each other on five occasions in T20Is. India triumphed 4 times, while Afghanistan emerged victorious, once. Also, this series marks the first time these nations will engage in a multi-match white-ball series.

Afghanistan, recently, toured India to participate in the ICC World Cup 2023. They finished at sixth position at the end of the league stage and secured victories against big teams like England, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

India, on the other hand, exhibited a dominant performance throughout the tournament. They didn’t lose a single game in the league stage and finished at number one position with 10 wins in 10 matches.

The Men in Blue then crossed swords with New Zealand in the semi-final encounter against New Zealand. They did manage to exact revenge for the defeat it faced in the 2019 World Cup, beating the Blackcaps by 70 runs.

However, in the final, India, unfortunately, bowed down to Australia’s match-winning partnership between Travis Head and M Labuschagne. Million hearts were crushed at Narendra Modi Stadium as Australia beat them by 6 wickets in the 2023 World Cup final.

India are now poised to face Australia in a five-match T20I series, starting 23rd November 2023. With senior players being rested, Suryakumar Yadav has been tasked to lead the side, while Ruturaj Gaikwad will act as his deputy for the first three games.

Shreyas Iyer will take on the vice-captaincy duties after he makes his comeback from the fourth match onwards.
